Te Rerenga Wairua–The Leaping-Off Place of the Spirits (Cape Reinga). Where the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific, and a Maori's soul departs this life after death. Do you see the little blip there to the right of the nearly-final point? That is the pohutukawa whose root the soul slides down into the sea. It is a special place–you can feel it.
Lunch and a swim at the beach. Drive 10 more minutes and you're at Cape Reinga. (You can't go near the water at the Cape–it's tapu–sacred.)

Driving on 90 Mile Beach–the whole way! The beach, like every NZ beach, is classed as a road. It's long, and it's wide, and it's pretty darned endless.
